Where prototypes go wrong at scale

A part that prints fine on an FDM printer or machines fine as a one-off prototype can still be a nightmare — or flatly impossible — to produce at volume. Undercuts that can't release from a mold. Yes — this is one of the most common reasons people reach out. I'll review the design against the actual process your manufacturer uses and identify exactly which features are the problem, then fix them.

Does DFM review only apply to injection molding?+

No — DFM principles apply to CNC machining, sheet metal, casting, and 3D printing too. Each process has its own manufacturability rules, and the review is tailored to whichever process your part is going through.

I already have a manufacturer picked out — do you need to talk to them directly?+

Not necessarily, though it helps if you can share their specific feedback or process specs. I can also work independently from general best practices for your target process and volume.

Can DFM review also reduce my per-unit cost, not just fix defects?+

Yes — a lot of DFM work is really cost engineering: simplifying features, reducing material usage, and eliminating unnecessary secondary operations, on top of making the part moldable or machinable at all.

How much does a DFM review cost?+
